Established in 1983, Furness Cars & Commercials Ltd is a family run business offering 24hr roadside assistance and recovery services across South Cumbria and the Lake District - 365 days a year. We run a vast and expanding fleet of varying vehicles with a huge range of capabilities. We provide roadside computerised diagnostics, roadside assistance, breakdown recovery, accident recovery as well as storage at our depots based at Askam-In-Furness and Crooklands (M6 J36) – catering for all vehicles from cars and light commercials to buses, lorries and low loaders.
A company capable of recovering all cars and commercial vehicles, owning and operating one or more recovery vehicles with a GTM capacity to handle the maximum GVM.
A company capable of recovering commercial vehicles only up to the maximum permitted legal weights, owning and operating one or more recovery vehicles with a GTM capacity to handle the maximum GVM.
A company capable of recovering cars and commercial vehicles up to 32.5 tonnes GVM, owning and operating one or more recovery vehicles with a GTM capacity of 44 tonnes.
A company capable of recovering cars and commercial vehicles, owning and operating one or more vehicles with a GTM capacity equal to or greater than the combined weight of the recovery vehicle plus 17 tonnes.
A company owning and operating one or more recovery vehicles capable of recovering cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes GVM with a GTM capacity to handle the maximum GVM.
A company capable of transporting only cars and light commercial vehicles up to 2.5 tonnes GVM and a maximum of 5 passengers. Transporter vehicles are required to comply if over 3.5 tonnes GVM, with the Department of Transport Plating and Testing Regulations and have a valid test certificate. All vehicles are required to comply with current legislation.

With the Exception of category A2 and F the requirements of each category include those covering a lower weight capability i.e. category C1 must cover the requirements of C2, D1 and D2.
